Thomas waited eight days. No doubt with Peter and the others joyously celebrating about seeing Jesus.
We’ve all been there. Sick. Tired. Depressed. Alone. Confused. Lost. In a situation that we don’t know how to resolve. Beyond our control. Watching others celebrate blessing. And waiting.
Perhaps we’ve prayed. Perhaps we’ve asked for counsel from others. Read the Bible. But still waiting to see Jesus answer our request.
The Lord does show himself to Thomas and fulfills Thomas’ request to see and touch. Then tells them him (and ALL the disciples) that others are blessed for believing without seeing. (John 20:29)
The Lord does show himself - to us as well. We only need to ask and He reveals himself. Perhaps not in our timing but always for our good.
And that’s the rub. “Our good” isn’t defined by us (who want what we want when we want it). “Good” is defined by the One who conquered death, forgives our sins, and reconciles us with God beyond and in spite of our ability to do any good at all.
We may not understand the why of the wait, but trust it is for our good.
